PCV/hematocrit:It measures the volume of red blood cell from whole blood in the sample
We take a blood sample centrifuge it we get 3 layers:plasma, buffycoat, suspended rbc cells
Out of these rbc(45%),plasma(55%),buffycoat(negligible)
So,we measure pcv in %...
Ranges are male:40-54%
Female:36-46%(may vary)
Why we needed this????????
Probably for diagnosing I take avg pcv as 45%,then if we get below this 45%-Anemic
Above this 45%-polycythemic
How do we know this ???????????
Well by Macromethods:wintrobe,edta anticoagulant
Micromethod:capillary tube

Hope this helped
